The staff at Minturn Middle School believes that all students are capable of achieving excellence and that success in school will influence their learning, attitudes and behaviors for life. Therefore, we have developed and implemented a strong focus in math, language arts and reading. We work together closely to develop instructional plans and assessments that have explicit goals aligned with Colorado Content standards.
We offer a rigorous curriculum, which includes the essential elements of exemplary mathematics, language arts and reading programs. The five major strands of our math program are understanding, computing, applying, reasoning and engaging. These are critical for developing mathematical proficiency for our students. We have a comprehensive approach to literacy, which includes instruction in reading, writing, listening and speaking. This instruction is modeled after the proven best practices. Teachers and students have access to appropriate materials for the benefit of increased literacy skills. Instruction in special areas of visual arts, physical education, industrial arts, and performing arts support the regular academic program. This provides a balanced curriculum for our students.
Our focus is to clearly communicate our objectives to all students while setting high and demanding expectations. Collaboration with our colleagues helps deliver and integrate content for the benefit of increased student achievement.
We have built in our schedule time for teachers to assess their lessons’ effectiveness and examine student performance. Lessons are adjusted accordingly to meet the needs of our diverse population at Minturn Middle School.
